Why this exists

Worn constantly. Reviewed casually.

Underwear is one of the most-used things people buy, yet the usual guide collapses the decision into a vague superlative and a purchase link. The reasoning stays invisible: no consistent definition of comfort, no explanation of what value means, and no way to see why one pair finished above another.

Underwearank set out to build the opposite. Every conclusion should show its workings, every brand should face the same rules, and a different need should produce a different answer for a stated reason. If the ranking cannot explain itself, it has not earned the number beside it.

The finished version of that mission requires real wear, wash-cycle, dry-time, and construction evidence. That program is not finished, so today's scores remain editorial estimates and say so wherever they appear. The goal is to replace each estimate with measured evidence—not to disguise the estimate in the meantime.

Ten things to know about Underwearank

  1. We score. We don't just recommend.

Most underwear roundups give you an adjective and a buy button. Every brand here gets a number between 0 and 10, built from five sub-scores you can see individually. A brand that wins on breathability and loses on durability shows you both, instead of hiding behind “great all-rounder.”

  2. Every brand faces the identical rubric.

Comfort, fit, durability, breathability, value. Same five criteria, same fixed weights, applied to the budget three-pack and the $38 pair alike. No brand gets graded on a curve because it's a favourite or because it's cheap.

    Read the rubric
  3. You can check our arithmetic.

The weights are published: comfort 30%, fit 25%, durability 20%, breathability 15%, value 10%. Take any brand's five sub-scores, multiply, add, and you'll land on the number at the top of its page. If you don't, we've made a mistake and we want to hear about it.

  4. No brand can buy a position.

There is no rate card, no sponsored slot, no “featured partner” tier. Not because we're above it, but because the moment one rank is for sale every other rank becomes worthless — including the ones nobody paid for.

  5. No brand sees its score before you do.

We don't send drafts for approval, we don't run scores past PR for comment, and we don't take corrections on opinion. Factual errors, absolutely. A brand disliking its rank is not a factual error.

  6. Right now, the links earn us nothing.

Every “Check price” link goes straight to the brand's own storefront and pays us zero. If we ever add an affiliate program, the disclosure goes at the top of every page it touches — not buried in a footer nobody scrolls to.

  7. The scores are editorial estimates, and we say so.

Long-term wear testing is underway and not finished. Until it lands, these numbers reflect our own judgement against the published rubric. We'd rather tell you that in plain English than imply a lab that doesn't exist yet.

    Current data status
  8. Brands get on the list by existing, not by pitching.

The bar is simple: sells men's underwear direct to consumers in the US, and has been on sale at least a year. We don't wait to be contacted, and being contacted has never once put a brand on this page.

  9. A score moves when the product moves.

A fabric swap, a fit revision, an elastic that gives out across multiple pairs — those change a number. A press release, a rebrand, or a polite email do not.

  10. When we're wrong, we fix it in public.

Corrections get made and dated on the page itself. If a fix changes a rank, we say so in the entry rather than quietly re-sorting the list and hoping nobody kept a screenshot.

Corrections

Found a mistake? We'll fix it with your name on it.

A wrong price, a discontinued cut, a fabric change we missed, or arithmetic that doesn't reconcile with the published weights — all of it is worth an email. Corrections are dated on the page they affect.
